BIOGRAPHY
My name is Neal Snyman - a Cape Town based freelance developer and consultant with a wealth of experience working alongside independent businesses.
I specialize in iOS, macOS, Android and Linux application development.
Having started a degree in computer science I soon became a university dropout cliche - leaving to pursue a career in music production.
I started as an apprentice sound engineer at a recording studio in London before embarking on a twenty five year freelance career that saw me work with a diverse range of artists including David Bowie, Bjork, Brenda Fassie, Boy George, The Spingbok Nude Girls, Crowded House, Arno Carstens, Papa Wemba, The Parlotones, Prime Circle, Heather Nova, Colin Vearncombe, Stimela, Wendy Oldfield, Tananas and Bayete.
After deciding I needed a change, I turned my focus back to programming just as Apple opened their native iOS API up to third party developers.
My experience running big recording projects has crossed over quite nicely into my work as a programmer. The recording process from my view as a sound engineer - being briefed by record labels to working one-on-one with artists, converting their ideas into a recorded product as well as managing budgets and other freelance personel - is not too dissimilar to building applications. It's a creative process that I find immensely gratifying.
I love working with small, open minded and adventurous companies while avoiding establishments with HR departments.
